VR Karbala
VR Karbala:
Virtual Reality Karbala is an innovative
project that is aiming to bring the tragic incident of Karbala to life. Through
virtual reality, VR Karbala is aiming to allow its user to walk among the
companions of Imam (as), praying behind the Imam (as), listen to the
heartbreaking cry of the children, ride along with Abbas (as), see the
frustration of Zaynab (sa), feel the grief of Imam Hussain (as) and the
vulnerability of Imam Zaynul Abideen (as).
What is VR?
Virtual Reality (VR) enables the
possibility to create realistic images, sounds and other sensations that
replicate a specific environment. Through VR the user’s physical presence is
simulated into the virtual environment.
360° View:
The VR technology enables the user to
move with 360-degree in the replicated 3D environment, and with each movement,
the software allows the environment to follows the user’s sight.
History of VR Karbala:
The project of VR Karbala was initiated
with the purpose of combining technology with historical teachings. The world
around us is developing rapidly but unfortunately, there has not been much
development in communicating our religious or historical teachings to the
world. Hence, VR Karbala was started to teach, show and enable users to re-live
historical incidents, mainly from the tragedy of Karbala by using Virtual
Reality. Thus, in 2015, Mr. Nazer Hussain Mehrali decided to combine this idea
in a bachelor thesis, where the hypothesis was to revive the tragedy of Karbala
through VR, and combined with the subjects Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
This thesis laid the conceptual foundation of VR Karbala. Since May 2016, the
project of VR Karbala was officially initiated, and we are humble to present
you the first scenes of our work.
Development Plan:
The project of VR Karbala has the
potential to revolutionize the Islamic community and especially the Shia
community, hence a collaborative approach across the Islamic nations are needed
to develop this project. In order to realize this potential, VR Karbala is
involved with several co-designer, each with different background, education
and nationalities. Furthermore, as illustrated in the figure 2, a development
plan for VR Karbala project is outlined. Although VR Karbala has a
collaborative approach across the Islamic nations, still, the project has
limited capital and resources, which reflects the development process of the
project.
For Muharram 2017, VR Karbala is aiming
to prepare the following scenes:
The scene of Abbas (as)
The scene of Ali Asghar (as)
The scene of Ruqayaah (sa)
The scene of Ali Akbar (as)
Besides aforementioned scenes, the
general plan for 2017 contains the development of the following scenes:
The scene of Ali Akbar (as)
The scene of Imam Hussain (as)
The scene of Qasim (as)
Strength Goals:
VR Karbala is aiming to raise
approximately $600,000, but most probably, the goal might not reach. Hence, a
backup plan is created, where the goals are defined to be more optimistic as
well as realistic. However, VR Karbala is still hoping to raise approximately
$600,000 USD.
Development Plan for Muharrum 2018:
VR Karbala is aiming to raise
approximately $600,000, but most probably, the goal might not reach. Hence, a
backup plan is created, where the goals are defined to be more optimistic as
well as realistic. However, VR Karbala is still hoping to raise approximately
$600,000 USD.
The second milestone of the project is set to Muharram 2018,
where the project plan will contain the development of the following events:
- The arrival to Imam’ (as) caravan to Karbala
- The 7th, 8th and 9th of Muharram.
- The night of Ashura.
- The call to morning prayer.
- The first scene of attack.

" Through VR Karbala you will be able to
travel back in time and experience the tragedy of Karbala. Walk among the
people, pray behind the Imam, listen to the cry of the children, ride along
with Abbas, see the frustration of Zaynab, feel the grief of Imam Hussain (as)
and the helplessness of Zaynul Abideen(as)."
